Apparently it has only been actually my birthday for about half an hour.

I think my birthday really started on Tuesday, when my mum and grandma began the Festival of Julia in the traditional ways, which is with lots of booze and food and the ceremonial telling of the Birth of Julia, which is an ace story.


Basically my parents were at a party in newtown around the corner from their place in newtown, and it was 3pm on a sunday and so everyone they knew was extremely drunk because it was a party, in late september which is always great because it's just the very beginning of summer, and so in sydney that's a good time for parties.

so then my mum went into labour and everyone was too drunk to drive her to the hospital, but that was okay, it was only a few blocks to King George V so they rung her a taxi and the party continued. The guy who's house it was (who had a 9month old daughter) began taking bets on what time I would arrive.


SEVERAL HOURS LATER my grandma showed up at the hospital with some champagne, and convinced the nurses to put it in the fridge because she was a doctor.

And then I was born and the nurse offered my mum a cup of tea and she scoffed and said "but I have just given birth to Julia! She is basically your god! I demand champagne!" and then she and my dad and my grandma all drank champagne and because it was 1982 the nurses looked on disapprovingly.

The party that they'd been to was still going on when my dad rang to say that I had been born and that I was a girl and healthy and awesome and then the party continued on a bit more apparently.

BUT THAT IS THE STORY OF THE BIRTH OF JULIA.

Anyway so both mum and grandma told me that story and gave me some extremely colourful gifts.

anyway then wednesday it was also not entirely my birthday but almost, for real. it is extremely exciting and fun here.

And now thursday, my actual birthday for real!

Happy birthday me!!

anyway it is lovely over here, it is very calm and awesome. yay us. Jack is here in case of emergencys but he is taking a nap.
